Art and visual themes
In this series of works, Toshio Shibata aimed the camera at the concrete retaining walls and sand dams built in Japanese mountainous areas to prevent natural disasters and open up space. Although these huge structures built by high-level civil engineering technology look awkward in the natural environment, they have amazing geometric symmetry and even beauty. Through rigorous composition and delicate portrayal of large-scale cameras, Toshio Shibata successfully blended these artificial objects with the surrounding natural mountains and forests, becoming a visual symbol symbolizing the unique landscape of modern Japan.
